Matt Crum

Manager of Development and Tools

Matt Crum PCN's Manager of Development and Tools joined the company in 2016. His interest in computing started at an early age during the BBC Micro/MS-DOS days, upgrading and troubleshooting PCs to get shareware games to run before the Internet changed everything. Matt's academic path led him to The University of Leeds, where he studied Popular and World Musics, graduating in 2006. It was here, through electives in web design and VBA programming, that he discovered his passion for automation and scripting.

Prior to joining PCN, Matt worked at HSBC, enrolling on their IT graduate scheme in 2007. He became part of the internal networks team, managing routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers, before moving into the Global DDI (DNS, DHCP and IPAM) team. Here, he specialized in DDI technologies, implemented complex technical projects, and became a global SME for DNS-based GSLB.

At PCN, Matt initially served as a DDI Operations Engineer, where he expanded his skillset across additional DDI platforms and automated legacy internal processes to streamline business operations. Now, as the Manager of Development and Tools, he leads the development of PCN's DDI Portal application and platform, along with internal tools including PCN’s monitoring and notification systems, ITSM ticketing and reporting. His technical expertise is broad, encompassing various scripting languages, low-level Linux administration, and system containerization with Docker.

Outside of work, Matt lives in Sheffield, UK, with his young family. In any “spare time”, he enjoys cooking, travelling, rock climbing, DIY home projects, and performing at music festivals across the UK during the summer. Matt Crum's unique blend of technical expertise, innovative approach, and commitment to family and hobbies make him a dynamic and invaluable member of the PCN team.
